Shoot visit by DFM Students
Diploma in Filmmaking students of Sep 2021 and Mar 2022 were taken to a corporate film shoot on 25 and 26 July, for a live production experience. Corporate film shoots are one of the important formats of Audio visual materials used by corporates in B to B and B to C communications. During one such corporate film shoot at AASRA hospitals, Bannerghatta Road Bangalore, Our Diploma in Filmmaking Cinematography, Direction and Editing students visited the shoot to understand various corporate filmmaking concepts such as schedule planning, managing non actors on set, working with a professional crew etc.
In this particular shoot, students got an opportunity to observe and plan for advanced camera movements with high end production equipment like gimbal with mimic. Our Cinematography tutor Mr. Rajeev Ganesan, demonstrated the functionalities of the gimbal and the setup along with the advantages and disadvantages of using this rig over the others in a production environment.
Also, various lighting setups were demonstrated for planned as well unplanned actions. Adithya, DFM Mar 2022 student said, “ Being a direction student, I am always fascinated with camera movement and the dynamics that can be added to storytelling through camera movements. This exercise helped me understand how we can use a gimbal with mimic to stage and block complex scenes to advance the narrative”.
Nigamanth Bharadwaj, DFM Sep 2021 student, “ As a senior cinematography student, this field visit helped me learn several aspects of cinematography such as planning camera movements, lighting a large space with optimal power consumption. In this space we faced several challenges like reflective surfaces, low light zones like operation theaters etc and we learnt, how to solve the problems in real time. This experience really helped me to boost the confidence stepping out into the world of film production”.
